San Francisco / Golden Gate Bridge

As well as visiting Alcatraz in San Francisco we - my Mum my Dad and my cousin, Lozza and I - walked across the Golden Gate Bridge.
At the time it was built it was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world.
The building of it began in 1933 and took 4 years to build therefore it was built in 1937.

The bridge links the city of San Francisco to Marin County.
It is 2737 metres long from one side to the other.
At its highest point it is 67 metres above water level therefore helicopters often fly under it, although it has towers that are 152 metres high from its top to the bridge.

It is very famous with a lot of tourism and has more than 40 million vehicles driving over per year!
Just like the Sydney Harbour Bridge it has a paint job every year.
Also, for a fact, the Golden Gate Bridge is not the colour gold or even made out of gold, it is made of steel and is a reddish - brown colour.

This is the bridge with my Dad, my Mum and me in the foreground. Unfortunately it was raining but that didn't ruin it one bit.

This is me with my cousin on the bridge.
