Saturday 28th of April, WORLD CRICKET CUP FINAL (1)

WOW!

WHAT A DAY, WHAT A PLAY BY GILCHRIST, AND WHAT A BRILLIANT HAT-TRICK OF WORLD CUP WINS!

We left our hotel at 7:30 therefore waking up at 6:30, which for me is seriously hard to do. We got to the ground at 8.30 - for a 9.30 start. The pity was that the game didn't start till 12:15 due to drizzling rain which wasn't much fun.

This is us in the rain.

The night before I warmed up for the event by playing beach cricket with my cousin and a bunch of West Indians. When we got to Kensington oval, there were people handing out flyers and signs for us to hold up. Most of them had something like "Jesus Christ is 2007 not out" but if you ask me the only christ had a Gil before it and he was the man of the match, hitting 149 runs off 104 balls.

As soon as the rain stopped and they had pulled the rain cover off the pitch, they tossed the coin and for the first time since 1984 Australia won the toss at Kensington oval. Ricky Ponting sent Australia in to bat first.

This is us cheering.

We had some Sri Lankan fans near us (most of the crowd was pro Sri Lanka) who, when Sri Lanka had put on 110 for the second wicket and were looking as if they might make a game of it, yelled loudly and tauntingly, “Australia is in trouble, serious trouble.”

This gave us the opportunity of forming a group (of me and my father, Julius) shouting in unison, at each successive wicket:

Sri Lanka is in trouble, serious trouble - then

Sri Lanka is in trouble, deep deep trouble - then

Sri Lanka is in trouble, desperate bloody trouble - then

Sri Lanka’s not in trouble, they’re totally stuffed.

Just like at the footy.
