Paris / Eiffel Tower

Please read the posting below this one before proceeding:
The same day I woke up after sleeping 14 hours, we visited and climbed the Eiffel Tower and to NOT take any photos would have been downright nutty so here are a few...

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most identifiable man made wonders in the world.
It is a magnificent feat of engineering standing like a sentinel over Paris.
It was invented, designed, and partly built by Gustave Eiffel.
Its construction began on the 15th of January in 1887 with 221 workers, 100 of them were iron workers, that were making the 18,038 parts that were to be assembled by the other 121 workers.

Eventually the magnificent piece of art was completed on the 31st of March 1989 in hope that it would be an "exposition universalle" or, roughly translated, an exhibition of the Paris - world fair.
It eventually became a tourist attraction, and a famous one at that, with 6,719,200 visitors in 2006! (That's six million, seven hundred and nineteen thousand, 200 visitors in 2006)!

The Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world with a height of 312 metres until 1930. Now, it is 324 metres because it has an antenna on the top instead of a French flag.
Its weight is 10,000 tonnes approximately which is surprisingly lightweight.

We could see the Eiffel Tower clearly from our hotel because it is only less than a kilometre away therefore we took a nice walk there. This is me standing under it.

We walked up the stairs of the Eiffel, rather than taking the elevator. This was our choice for two reasons; firstly, the line for the elevator was really, really long and secondly, as we've seen in a Superman movie, elevators in the Eiffel Tower can be very dangerous. We thought the first reason was more appropriate but in the end we walked. It is not as long of a walk as it looks and we had a quick break at the first floor up, which has many cafes, souvenirs, facts and gift shops.

We continued up to the second floor after about ten minutes encountering another not - so - tiring ascent up the stairs. When we got to the second floor it was mainly a viewpoint for those who wanted to see from the Eiffel Tower.

We looked around the second floor and realised there were no steps ascending to the top and saw that the only way was by elevator, which had a queue of about a 40 minute wait so I'm sorry to say as I write this that we did not go to the top for reasons that are utterly insane, actually most of them were thought up by me. I'M NOT INSANE! (Yet).

The descending was nothing new from the ascending, therefore I have nothing to say about it besides that it was the same descending as it was ascending, therefore I have nothing to say about it besides that it was the same descending as it was ascending, ther- Ooh, dinnertime!
Or as they say in the country I am writing this from, "Ooh, suppertime!"
Ok, when we got back to our room that night, I was told by my parents that the Prince of Saudi Arabia was staying on the other side of the hotel from us.
