London / Buckingham Palace

Please read the posting below this one before proceeding.

On the third day in London we went to Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the Guards even though Her Majesty was not there.
We could see them lining up and officers shouting orders and bands playing.
It was both weird and interesting at the same time.

We saw the guards come out of the Wellington barracks about 500m from Buckingham Palace and stroll down the street as if it was a parade towards and through the gates of Buckingham Palace.
They wore their well known red clothes and foot long bear skin hats. They looked very professional in their gear.

I was told by a good friend of mine (he knows who he is) that the foot long bear skin hats were originally a French idea. Thanks for that.
